What is Procain ?
Procaine is a local anesthetic drug of the amino ester group. It is most commonly used in dental procedures to numb the area around a tooth and is also used to reduce the pain of intramuscular injection of penicillin.
what is procaine used for ?
1. Mainly used for infiltration anesthesia.
2. Used for short-term surgery in the lower abdomen. It can also be used for local intravenous anesthesia of extremities.
3. It is used for "closed therapy" to treat certain injuries and inflammations, which can relieve the symptoms of injury and inflammation to a certain extent.
4. Used to correct vasomotor dysfunction of extremities.
5. Treat neurosis.
How is the procaine work?
The effect of procaine hydrochloride on peripheral nerves produces conduction block, which penetrates the nerve membrane in a diffuse manner by concentration gradient and blocks the sodium ion channel on the inner side, so that the excitation threshold of nerve cells is increased, excitability and conductivity are lost, and information transmission is blocked, which has a good local anesthetic effect.
What is the dosage for procaine use ?
Local injection: The concentration of injection is usually 0.25%-0.5%, and the dosage depends on the condition of the disease, but it should not exceed 1.5g per hour. Its anesthesia time is short, a small amount of adrenaline (1:1) can be added to prolong the action time. Stomatological anesthesia sometimes uses 2% to 4% solution concentration
NOTE:The above usage method is for reference only.
What are the product similar with Procaine and what is their function?
1.Benzocaine:Benzocaine is indicated to treat a variety of pain-related conditions.Commonly used for Local anesthesia of oral and pharyngeal mucous membranes;Surgical or procedural local anesthesia;Otic pain.
Some condom companies add benzocaine to condoms to delay the time for men to ejaculate during sex .
2.Lidocaine:It is one of the most commonly used local anaesthetics in dentistry.also used to treat ventricular tachycardia. When used for local anaesthesia or in nerve blocks, lidocaine typically begins working within several minutes and lasts for half an hour to three hours.
3.Tetracaine(amethocaine):is an ester local anesthetic used to numb the eyes, nose, or throat. It may also be applied to the skin before starting an intravenous (injection) to decrease pain from the procedure. Typically it is applied as a liquid to the area. Onset of effects when used in the eyes is within 30 seconds and last for less than 15 minutes.
novocaine vs lidocaine vs procaine:
1.Lidocaine Advantage:The efficacy profile of lidocaine as a local anaesthetic is characterized by a rapid onset of action and intermediate duration of efficacy.
Disadvantage:Common ADRs include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, visual disturbances, tinnitus, tremor, and/or paraesthesia
2.Benzocain advantage:It has a long-lasting effect and low toxicity.
Disadvantage:Benzocaine may cause allergic reactions Contact dermatitis (redness and itchiness
3.Procaine(novocaine) advantage:As an additive to other products, enhance product effect
Disadvantage:cause allergic reactions causing individuals to have problems with breathing, rashes, and swelling
